Monos Sunglasses

Sunglasses leave little room for imperfection. For Monos, we created 72 3D renderings where every curve, finish, and lens had to be just right.

The challenge

Following a successful first project with Monos, we were brought on to create product imagery for their new sunglasses collection. With six distinct frame designs, multiple colorways, and a variety of lens treatments, the project required 72 renderings while maintaining an exceptionally high standard of product accuracy and consistency.

The provided prototype samples were close to the final designs but not completely accurate, so they were supplemented with 2D specification drawings, material swatches, and other references. The organic shapes of the frames made recreating each design from scratch particularly challenging.

Our approach

Each of the six frame styles was modeled from scratch using the prototype samples, DWG drawings, and specification references to establish the correct proportions and organic forms. The materials were then developed to accurately reproduce the range of finishes, including solid colors and semi-transparent acetate with multiple tones. The Tortoise and Tobacco finishes required custom textures and more complex shaders to capture their layered, translucent appearance.

A unified lighting setup was developed to work across the entire collection while still revealing the characteristics of each finish. Lens colors and gradients were also carefully matched across the different configurations. The final 72 images covered three angles across the various frame styles and colorways, with a master PSD delivered so Monos could make additional lens color adjustments internally.

For a product like sunglasses, realism is about more than simply matching the shape. Small differences in curvature, transparency, reflections, and material depth can dramatically change how a frame looks on screen. The goal was to create images that felt polished and refined while remaining faithful to the physical products Monos was developing.

The project also required a balance between consistency and individuality. Every frame needed to share the same visual language, but the lighting had to reveal the unique characteristics of each finish without making the translucent materials appear flat or overly artificial. The resulting collection gave Monos a consistent set of high-quality product images across its expanding sunglasses line.
