The challenge

King's Hawaiian needed a reliable way to visualize packaging concepts with the level of precision expected from the finished product. The package shape, proportions, label placement, and color all needed to closely reflect the physical samples, while the food inside had to look appetizing, realistic, and consistent across different products. Achieving the right balance of accuracy and visual appeal required close attention to both the packaging and the food presentation.

Our approach

We work directly from King's Hawaiian's label artwork and physical packaging samples to build accurate 3D models of each package. We carefully match the shape, proportions, materials, colors, and label placement, using the provided stylistic references to establish the desired look and presentation.

The food is treated with the same level of attention. Depending on the package and the available imagery, we either work from food photography provided by King's Hawaiian or create custom 3D food models from scratch. This allows us to create a realistic, appetizing presentation while maintaining consistency across the product line.

Tub of King's Hawaiian Shake'em Bites in Bananaaa! flavor with Minions branding

To date, we have created 20 packaging renderings for King's Hawaiian, with each product presented in a standardized set of nine views: three perspective angles from the front, left, and right, along with six orthographic views. This consistent approach gives the team a complete set of visuals for evaluating packaging from every angle while maintaining a uniform look across the product line.

Each project also includes front and back PSD templates with editable smart objects, allowing the King's Hawaiian team to quickly test new label designs or swap out the food imagery without rebuilding the package. While these templates are intended for internal development rather than final marketing use, they provide a high-quality and flexible way to explore packaging concepts before moving into final production. As our relationship continues, the growing library of established 3D packaging models also makes future label updates faster and more efficient, without having to recreate the package from scratch each time.
